

GUWAHATI: The general secretary, Naren Pathak, of the Motor Paribohon Sewakarmi Sanmilit Mancha in a press meet has demanded the government to ease its transportation policies so that the owners, workers, and self-appointed owners of the vehicles do not have to pay additional fees or fines. Also, he said that unauthorized or illegal toll gates should be closed and toll taxes should be reduced with the installation of new toll gates. The approval from the Cabinet by the Assam government regarding the social security scheme for transport workers should be implemented as fast as possible. Also, he has appealed to the Assam government to make apps like Ola or Uber that will help transport workers.
On the other hand, the owners of those vehicles that are scrapped by the government should be given compensation. Under the Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2021, the handing over of the whole transportation system to the corporate sector must be stopped. Also, the GST for both diesel and petrol must be uniform.
It may be mentioned that recently, a private car of a MLA without insurance hit a driver who lost his life, so the mancha is urging the government to pay compensation to the family with a government job to any eligible kin of the deceased.
As per sources, a convention was held in Barpeta Road on May 28 where various resolutions were taken into account, and this meeting led to the creation of this mancha. Members of the Presidiums including Rabindra Kumar Dutta, Rupam Dutta, and other office-bearers, attended the press meet.
