Workshop stresses safety in inland water transport

GUWAHATI, Aug 21: The Inland Water Transport, Assam laid stress on safety measures for vessels and passengers and regulation of ports at a workshop held in the city on Monday. The three technical sessions on that occasion covered economic paradigms relating to inland waterways in Assam, environment and safety concerns. Stress was also laid on good practices adopted by other countries like Germany, Chi, Brazil and Bangladesh where inland water transport has flourished as an industry. The workshop also took into its account the protection of some endangered aquatic species found in the Brahmaputra.
