DIBRUGARH, March 26: The Dibrugarh Ladies Club presented the ‘Joymoti Award’ to Dr Monisha Behal recently at the Sankardeva Sabhakokhya of DHSK College, Dibrugarh. Dr Behal is the Executive Director and founder member of North East Network, a women’s organization working in Northeast. Dr Behal a social activist, actively working in the field for last 34 years, has a deep interest in women’s issues. She started working through Tezpur District Mohila Samiti at Tezpur, her home town and sensitized several women’s organization to add value to agricultural work with a right’s perspective. She wrote several articles on the issue of women and she was awarded the ‘Marthur Foundation Fellowship’ in 1995. She undertakes training and education of NGO’s in the areas of Women’s health, crafts production, social justice and women’s rights. In March 2007, she was awarded the ‘Anya Award’ for women achiever of the year, by the Ministry of Women & Child development.
The award presentation ceremony was started with a Jyoti Sangeet. Dr Aditi Baruah, president of Dibrugarh Ladies Club briefly described about the Joymoti Award, which has been awarded by the Ladies Club since 1986. The recipients till now are Minoti Khound, Nirupama Phukan, Malaya Goswami, Pratima Pandey Baruah, Popi Santa Bharali, Lakhimi Baruah, Parbati Baruah and Birubala Rabha.
Dr Behal was felicitated with a plulam gamosa and presented with a citation, cash amount of Rs 7000 and a gift. Among the audience were the Principal of DHSK College, members from various ladies organizations of Dibrugarh and students from the colleges, who had actively interacted with Dr Behal.
