SHILLONG, March 28: Rajeev Mehta is set to take over as the Chief Security Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya. A well placed source confided to ‘The Sentinel’ about the notification that was endorsed by the Government during the midst of the recent budget session of the State Assembly.

Rajeev Mehta, a former State Director General of Police (DGP), admitted during a telephonic conversation with The Sentinel from his Gurgoan resident about the appointment. “I am aware of the notification and the terms and conditions being put in place,” stated Mehta, adding that he is likely to take charge in the next month.

Mehta said that his role is to shape the perspective planning and future policing. “It’s an extra task cut out in conceptualizing our security strategies,” said the former DGP’.

Mehta said that the State DGP is the man who will be in-charge of all policing activities, a candid revelation that the official power in the police hierarchy will not be affected by his appointment.

Rajeev Mehta’s appointment has been mired with controversy after a civil society group questioned the move.

However, the same civil society group never questioned the rehabilitation of IAS officers in the State government. There are four retired officers who have been fitted in the office of the State Secretariat after attaining the age of superannuation, yet no issues have been raised by the origitions, rued a section of conscious citizen.
