Government invites agitating teachers for talks

SHILLONG, Aug 23: The Joint Action Committee Teachers Association of Meghalaya (JACATAM) has decided to attend the meeting on Wednesday schedule to be held at the Chief Secretary room at 11 am. “We have received an official letter today from the state government inviting us to discuss issues relating the grievances face by the teachers,” Babu Kular Khongjirem told reporters here. He also said that JACATAM will participate in the meeting tommorow but the strike by the teachers will continue till they complete the meeting with the government and know its outcome and then only they will decide and let others know what steps should be taken. It may be mentioned that JACATAM had carried out its general strike from August 22 in which most of its teacher members have skipped their duties which has crippled may schools from functioning.
