Historical Dhodar Ali in deplorable condition

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

Golaghat, Dec 17: During the reign of the Ahoms in Assam, Swargadeo Gadadhar Singha, an Ahom King in around 1867 constructed the Dhodar Ali Road, which is also termed as 'the lazy man's road' or 'the sluggers' road' as the king had ordered some lazy men to construct this road.

Dhodar Ali starts from Kamargaon in Golaghat. This historical road connects Kamargaon in Golaghat to Joypur in Dibrugarh via Kamarbandha, Titabor and Mariani. This 212-km road is also important as it connects Assam with neighbouring States like galand and Manipur.

But the present condition of this historical road is deplorable. Many potholes have made travelling through this road an uncomfortable experience for people. This road's deplorable condition causes several accidents also. People have alleged negligence and the ignorant attitude of the authorities concerned to repair this historical road. This road should not just be repaired but also preserved as it signifies ancient engineering which still facilitates modern transportation.
