KOKRAJHAR, May 17: A grand felicitation ceremony and a mass gathering on the occasion of ‘Landang Bwisagu Bidai’ celebration was recently organized at Kumarsali village near Ballomguri of Bijni subdivision of Chirang district to welcome and felicitate the present Mech (Bodo) Prince Rajkhungur Prithviraj rayan Dev Mech.
Several cultural groups performed various colourful Bodo traditiol programmes to welcome the Bodo Prince. Prithviraj rayan Dev Mech is the 19th Royal descendant of the historical Sidli kingdom. Dev Mech claimed that the Sidli kingdom was established at Chikjhar by the then Mech (Bodo) King Chikra Mech, who is popularly known as Chik Jhwlao in the Bodo society. He also said the Hindu society later regarded him as Chik rayan Dev. He said that the protection of the tribal belts and blocks was a must for the protection of the Bodo community and the existing tribal people of Assam. He also said that the spread of education among the tribal society was must and mandatory for their significant development. Adding further, Dev Mech said that the Bodo community should remain ever united without any division due to religious grounds.
Hundreds of people of the district actively participated in the mass gathering and the grand felicitation ceremony of Kumar Prithviraj rayan Dev Mech.
This programme was organized by in collaboration with various Bodo organizations and social workers of that area. The 18th Bodo Royal descendant of Sidli, Pradip rayan Dev Mech, Subdivisiol Police Officer of Bijni, Buddheswar Khaklary (APS) along with the leaders of Boro Samaj, ABSU, Boro Harimu Afat, Brahma Samaj and other Bodo organizations attended the programme as special guests.
