Itanagar: Ahead of the April 11 Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, the Congress in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday received a shot in its arm with senior politician and sitting National People’s Party (NPP) MLA, Tanga Byaling joining the party with several other prominent political leaders of the State.

Byaling, present NPP legislature party leader, who won from the Nacho Assembly seat in Upper Subansiri district for five consecutive terms, along with former Konsa West MLA Yumsen Mate were among seven leaders to join Congress with their supporters at a function organized at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan here.

Others newcomers included former government officers Dr CK Gohain, Radham Sindhu and Noglin Bori. Announcing that many more are waiting in the wings to join the party, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Takam Sanjoy claimed that Congress will emerge as king in the 2019 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections with absolute majority.

However, the party though ready to fight from 60 Assembly seats, would consider poll alliance in a few seats with regional parties like the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) and Janata Dal (Secular).

Welcoming Election Commission of India’s decision to announce simultaneous polls that too giving only 30 days instead of 45 days in the past, Sanjoy cautioned all State Government officers to strictly adhere to model code of conduct (MCC) in force.

He said that party has already constituted vigilance committees right from block level to monitor that no officer resorts to accord sanction, give contingency appointment, effect transfer and posting on back dates in violation of MCC.

Terming his joining as ‘ghar wapsi’, Byaling said that “his supporters in a resolution asked him to return to Congress if he wants their support.”
