

BISWANTH: A young man who was selected for Assam Police last year, had died during the training period and the poor family of the victim has not received compensation from the government, alleged the victim’s father Dulu Saikia who is a small farmer by profession.
Dulu Saikia mentioned that his son was one of the many cadets selected for Assam Police and left for his training in May 2022. He was one of the seven young boys and girls selected for the job from his village. But he fall ill during the training which led to him being admitted to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital. This led to the subsequent death of the victim Sujit Saikia on 9 August 2022 while under medical care.
It is important to note that although the medical report mentioned the cause of death as Japanese Enchepahlites, the departmental officials mentioned to the family members that the boy had passed away because of a brain tumour. The family members however alleged that wrong medical treatment led to his death. It is a year now and the family members have not received any justice from the authorities.
Father Dulu Saikia mentioned no officials from the department ever visited them or helped them or even enquired about their well-being during the past year. Even writing to the chief minister of the state did not yield any positive results. He demanded that proper enquiry be done into the matter and punish those responsible. He also asked for the making arrangements for a job for one of the siblings of the late Sujit Saikia to take care of the financial responsibilities of his family.
He also mentioned that the family had to mortgage 3 bighas of land in order to buy the necessary uniform for his son, but with his death, they haven't been able to pay out the amount.
