Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta fumes to see mismanagement at Karimganj

SILCHAR: Health Minister Keshab Mahanta who was on a visit to Karimganj today to see how prepared is the hospital here to meet the challenge of ever surging Covid 19 disease. He could not check himself to look around the campus of the hospital and the most unhygienic condition prevailing from using harsh words against the Superintendent Arunabha Choudhury. He also fumed at the contractor concerned entrusted with the work of ICU building which was inordinately delayed.

The Health Minister was here on the instruction of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to ensure that no deficiency existed in hospitals to provide necessary medical treatment. He asked the Superintendent to remove all dirt and filth from the campus of the hospital immediately. Otherwise, he cautioned disciplinary action would be initiated.

He also severely scolded the contractor for negligence and delay in the completion of the ICU building which was expected to be completed for necessary equipments for the treatment of critical patients. After being thrashed and told of being blacklisted, the contractor returned to his senses and assured that the ICU would be completed within 20 days. Later on, Keshab Mahanta had a meeting with the M.P. and all MLAs of the district as well as health officials where stress was laid on being prepared in all possible way to deal with the threat perception of Covid pandemic.
