BJP, Congress Conflict Over Gujrat-Himachal Pradesh Election Results

GUWAHATI: The opposition Congress asserted that the saffron party, which has lost the northern state and the Delhi municipal corporation, will remain confined to Gujarat only as a regional party in the near future.  According to the reports, this was in contrast to the assertions made by the ruling BJP in Assam that the elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh had demonstrated wide public support for the party ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

"By showering this historic mandate out of their love & admiration for PM Narendra Modi, people have shown the path for 2024. Vikas and virat vision of PM Modi, impregnable strategy of union home minister Amit Shah and guidance of national president of the party JP Nadda have earned people's affection in historic Gujarat mandate," the tweet read by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

As per the sources, Diplu Ranjan Sarma, the state general secretary of the BJP, stated, "The win by a huge margin in the Gujarat election ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election has proved that the saffron party has wide support and has given the party confidence for the 2024 elections. Though we lost in Himachal Pradesh, the margin was minimal, which has established that the party has gained public support. Therefore, we consider the defeat in Himachal a kind of win."

Additionally, The setback in the Himachal Pradesh and Delhi municipal corporation elections demonstrated the saffron party's declining support, while the Congress in Assam accused the BJP of supporting AAP to win the polls in Gujarat.

"How would AAP, which had claimed its increased control in Gujarat ahead of the assembly elections, obtain only 5 out of 182 seats? This means that AAP helped BJP win the polls. BJP used AAP to obstruct Congress in Gujarat elections," said Manjit Mahanta, a spokesperson for the Assam PCC.
