Demand for train stoppage at Khairabari Railway Station

KALAIGAON: The people of greater Khairabari, along with the Greater Khairabari Nagarik Manch and Khairabari Press Club, have demanded stoppage of trains at Khairabari Railway Station.

They submitted a memorandum to the General Manager, North-East Frontier Railway of Maligaon through the Station Superintendent of Khairabari Railway Station to demand stoppage of three trains like UP-DN (15895-15896) Rangiya-Murkongselek Express, UP-DN (15815-15816) Guwahati-Dekargaon Intercity Express and UP-DN (15613-15614) Guwahati-Mukongselek Lachit Express.

Dwipen Deka, general secretary, and Pritish Ranjan Dev, president of Greater Khairabari Nagarik Manch, stated in the memorandum that Murkongselek-Rangiya Railway was the vital connectivity for the people of greater Khairabari under Khaiarabari revenue circle in Udalguri district. But they were facing inconvenience because of the fact that there was no stoppage of trains at Khairabari. There was stoppage for four trains at Khairabari before the COVID-19 pandemic. But the railway authority has now withdrawn the stoppage of trains due to which people are facing problems.

Moreover, the business institutions of Khairabari town like hotels and tea gardens are facing loss. People have urged the authority concerned of NE Frontier Railway to ensure stoppage of trains at Khairabari Railway Station immediately. "If the Railway authority does not take any step for stoppage of trains before May 31, then we will launch democratic movement," stated the memorandum. They also demanded the authority to provide pure drinking water facility and to build a hygienic platform along with toilets in the station campus.
