GOLAGHAT: State Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Golaghat on Saturday and took stock of the COVID-19 situation in the district.

Addressing the media, Sarma said that in Golaghat district, there were 163 active positive cases of COVID-19. Amongst them 120 are under treatment in Golaghat COVID-19 hospital and more than 40 are in Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH).

"Most of the positive patients are youths and asymptotic. We hope they recover very soon. Altogether 1,542 persons were kept under quarantine where 1,031 persons have been released. At present 500 persons are under various quarantine centres in Golaghat and out of them, it was possible to release 300 people of Friday," said the minister.

He added that the quarantine process should be continued until the situation became normal. "Model hospitals in rural areas will be used as COVID hospitals as the COVID Hospital of Golaghat is full and patients have been sent to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital." Notably, 16 more patients tested positive for COVID-19 in Golaghat. The total number of COVID-19 positive cases has risen to 172 in Golaghat district till the filing of this report.

In reply to a question, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the HSLC examination results would be declared in the first week of June and HS final exam result would also be declared in the month of June.
