Idol of Goddess Durga crafted with waste cartons by Dhubri girl

DHUBRI: Local amateur artisans make idols of Goddess Durga and one of them is Olivia Mondal of ward no 4 of Dhubri town. Olivia Mondal, a young teacher, crafted an idol of Goddess Durga with waste cartons this time, which will be showcased in one of the pandals from Sunday. This will certainly be an attraction for Puja hoppers, people of locality said.

Olivia after completion graduation, joined a local English medium school in town. Her passion for crafting items with waste materials continued despite her busy schedule.

When contacted by The Sentinel, Olivia said that the idol of Goddess Durga was crafted out of waste cartons and glue and to support the structure, plyboard was used.

"It was completed in one-and-half months. My father helped me to collect carton boxes from different stores, my mother helped me by giving some suggestions for designs and my brother also helped me in setting all of that together," she said.

Olivia also informed that earlier she had crafted the Dakshineswar Temple with carton boxes. So this time she thought of crafting a Durga idol with a message to save nature, she added.
