Tezpur: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur organized International Women's Day with the theme 'Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change' at Napam village on Friday. The main objective of the programme was to create awareness about the present scenario and the role of women in both socio and economic growth in the society.
Arifa Momtaz Begum, SMS(Community Science) elaborated the importance of International Women's Day and emphasized on different activities for women empowerment. Angana Sarmah, SMS (Horticulture) discussed about the different schemes of government for upliftment of women community through creating Self Help Groups.
Along with the programme, the RAWEP student stationed at KVK, Sonitpur gave a method demonstration on vermicompositing to the farm women for income generation. Namita Dutta, SMS(Soil Science) also discussed about the importance of soil health card and role of women farmers in farming community. Other officials from KVK, Sonitpur Roji Chutia and Sarmistha Borgohain were also present in the programme. KVK, Sonitpur felicitated two farm women for their contribution in the handloom sector. The programme was anchored by Pinkumoni Bokotial, RAWEP students where more than 50 of farm women attended the programme.
Gossaigaon: To mark International Women's Day, All Aadivasi Women Association of Assam (AAWAA) organized a panel discussion to discuss gender equality in the workplace at a community hall in Habrubil of Gossaigaon subdivision under Kokrajhar district, where Circle officer Bhauraguri, Sujata Gogoi attended the programme as chief guest. KVK employee Porna, Gossaigaon MLA and many other dignitaries also attended the programme.
Kokrajhar: The All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) on Friday observed International Women's Day at Nikachi in Baksa district. The secretary of ABSU Rongina Borgoyary said that Women's Day has great significance around the globe. All Bodo Students' Union since some decades has been working on the challenges regarding the struggle for the gender rights and security of women in the society.
Borgoyary said that ABSU with innovative change started the Mission Quality Education and Bodofa Mission for Sustainable Change amongst the downtrodden Bodo students. In recent past two years, ABSU has conducted 1500 meetings especially on the issues of women awareness and empowerment for change, she said adding that in this 21st century, the challenges are rather bigger.
LAKHIMPUR: It is said that gender balanced world is a better world and so various policies were adopted and implemented for the welfare of women to wipe out the imbalance between men and women. Yet a greater section of women of the society is still in the gloom of inequality, imbalance and miserable poverty being under privileged. So special policies on priority basis for those women are needed to uplift them just to provide a minimum living standard.
This demand was echoed on Friday in Lakhimpur in the programme of International Women's Day (IWD) observed under the aegis of Lakhimpur district unit of Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti (MASS). It is noteworthy that the organization observed the event, which is the focal point in the movement of women right, exceptionally in the Horizon Colony of North Lakhimpur town in the presence of the women and other people of the downtrodden community. Senior journalist Kumud Baruah chaired the public meeting of the event while Lakhimpur MASS secretary Raju Singha explained the objectives of the programme.
Activists of the women's right movement, Parashmoni Hazarika and Chandrika Saikia explained the significance of the International Women's Day in a view to aware the underprivileged women about their right. Taking part in the programme, Swachh Bharat Mission Lakhimpur district Brand Ambassador Ranjit Kakati called upon the gathering to change their attitude, which was always suppressed by an inferiority complex, for the transformation of the downtrodden society. He explained the IWD-2019 theme: 'Think equal, Build smart, Innovate for change'.
DOOMDOOMA: International Women's Day was celebrated by Doomdooma Mahila Samity on Friday at its venue at Main Road with President Boby Bora in the chair. Dr Ranjit Dutta, President, Tinsukia Zila Kabi Sanmilan attended the function as chief guest. The meeting was also addressed by eminent poet Dr Aruna Gogoi Baruah and Sarifa Khatun Chaudhury, President, Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sanmilani, Alaknanda Srikumari Kakati, President, Tinsukia Zila Mahila Samity and Runu Barthakur Barua secretary, Tinsukia Zila Mahila Samity. Altogether eleven women having contribution in different fields were felicitated in the meeting.
