RANGIA: The Kamrup district administration has geared up to celebrate the 75th Independence Day with the rest of the country. In this context, a meeting was held at the conference hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup, to discuss about preparedness for I-Day.

The meeting was chaired by Kailash Karthik N, Kamrup Deputy Commissioner, in presence of all the departmental heads, including police, representatives from Military and Para-Military forces along with Narshing Bey, District Development Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioners Sujit Baglary and Prasanta Pratim Kathkatia, and District Information and Public Relation Officer Manju Rani Deka.

DC Karthik appraised all that due to the pandemic situation, Independence Day would be celebrated in a befitting manner adhering to COVID-19 protocol. The duties and responsibilities regarding the arrangements such as security, health and hygiene, hoisting of national flag, stage arrangements, drinking water and refreshments were allotted to the departments concerned. The DC also suggested to keep proper coordination amongst the departmental heads to ensure smooth conduct of Independence Day celebration.

Kamrup Superintendent of Police Hitesh Chandra Rai explained the security measures to be taken for the celebration. The parade of Independence Day will be performed only by the contingents of Assam Police, military and para military forces due to the pandemic situation.

EXTORTIONIST HELD: A person identified as Sanidul Islam of village Baghmara Char under Barpeta district was held by Nagarbera police under Kamrup district with the help of Alopati outpost on Saturday.

According to the police, Sanidul had demanded Rs 50 lakh from Dulal Chandra Pathak of village Saru Kalubari ,who is a teacher in Bhakuradia Halangbari ME Madrassa in Kamrup district, over phone.

Sanidul allegedly also threatened him not to say anything to others or he would have to face dire consequences. The teacher remained absconding for several days after getting the threat. Nagarbera Police arrested Sanidul from Baghmara Char by tracking his mobile number. The accused was sent to jail.
