Paddy procurement centre opened in Assam's Barpeta

The centre will procure paddy from the farmers of the Barpeta district at minimum support price and there will be no middlemen/mediators in the complete process of procurement.

Barpeta: With an aim to facilitate farmers to sell their paddy production to government agencies at a Minimum Support Price (MSP), a Paddy Procurement Centre at Chenga in the Barpeta district was formally inaugurated recently. The Paddy Procurement Centre was inaugurated by Barpeta Deputy Commissioner Ayush Garg in the presence of ADC Khanindra Das, ACS and officials of Assam Food & Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd.

The centre, which has been set up by the Assam Food & Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd. in collaboration with District Administration of Barpeta will procure paddy from the farmers of the Barpeta district at minimum support price and there will be no middlemen/mediators in the complete process of procurement.

The Deputy Commissioner Ayush Garg while inaugurating the PPC, asked Agriculture department officials present in the meeting to procure paddy three times the target fixed by the government in order to benefit a large section of the farmers of the area. He also asked the farmers who have availed of this facility at the PPC to inform and mobilize more farmers in their respective areas to make use of this facility made available by the government for their benefit, stated a press release.
