BOKO: A panic situation prevailed in Chaygaon after a COVID-19 positive person was detected on Friday.

Hemanta Kalita (45) from Balagaon village under Goroimari Revenue Circle in Chaygaon, who works as a laboratory technician in Pandu First Referral Unit Hospital in Guwahati and is currently engaged in the Sarusajai Quarantine Centre, tested COVID-19 positive. On May 25 his swab sample was collected and on May 29 he was declared positive.

People panicked after hearing the news as he had come home on May 20 and had returned to the Sarusajai Quarantine Centre the next day. Kamrup district administration immediately declared his village as containment zone. Goroimari Revenue Circle officer Biman Das along with Chaygaon PS Officer in-charge Kapil Pathak and a medical team on Saturday morning reached the village and sealed the area. Goroimari Revenue Circle officer Biman Das said that the village was declared as containment zone for 14 days. A medical team took swab tests of 15 persons, including Hemanta Kalita's family. They are all now in home quarantine. Chaygaon PS Officer in-charge Kapil Pathak said that police would monitor the village. No one will be allowed to enter and go out of the village for 14 days.
