Senior Advocate From Assam Nilayananda Dutta Passes Away

Guwahati: Senior advocate from Assam and the Advocate General of Arunachal Pradesh Nilayananda Dutta has passed away. 

Popularly known as Nilay Dutta or Nilay da, the senior advocate had reportedly died after suffering from a heart attack at 2:30 am on Sunday.

Nilay Dutta had visited Coorg in Karnataka to celebrate his 46th wedding anniversary. On Friday, he had shared several pictures of him celebrating his wedding anniversary with his wife and loved ones on Twitter. 

As per reports, the senior advocate had complained of chest pain and had been admitted to the hospital where he was declared dead on Sunday.

He leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter.

Condolences from Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu and many others have poured in at the news of the senior advocate's sudden death.

Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu tweeted, "Deeply anguished by the sad news of passing away of Advocate General of Arunachal Shri Nilayananda Dutta Ji. In his passing away, we have lost a legendary legal luminary of the North East. My sincere condolences to his family and prayers for his soul to attain highest abode."

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sharma also expressed his grief on Twitter, and wrote, "Assam has lost one of the brightest lawyers, Nilay Dutta, who also had significantly contributed in many other fields including sports administration. His demise has created a huge void difficult to be filled up. Offer my deepest condolences to his family and well-wishers."
