TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia District Students' Union (TDSU) has expressed serious concern over the construction of Digboi-Duliajan Oil India pipeline through Dihing Patkai National Park. The multi-national company that was awarded the contract had cut down several valuable trees while laying the pipeline, alleged Samarjyoti Gohain, secretary of TDSU.

The release stated that at a time when the District Students' Union along with Digboi Regional Students' Union took up a scheme to plant more than 1,000 sapling to avoid man-elephant conflict, few miscreants were destructing the forest in alleged collusion with Digboi forest officials. The students' body also raised questions as to who issued the NoC to the contractor to lay the pipeline after large-scale destruction of the forest. They have sought immediate halt to felling of valuable trees in the national park else the Tinsukia District Students' Union would be forced to launch a fierce democratic agitation against the forest department, the release stated.
