GUWAHATI: A total of six police personnel from the Northeast have been awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Services. The Centre on Tuesday announced the President's Medal for Gallantry and President's Medal for Distinguished Services and Meritorious Services Medals to the personnel of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards on the eve of Republic Day.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) (Special Branch) Hiren Chandra Nath of Assam has been awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Services, along with one police personnel each from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.

On the other hand, 28 police personnel from the north-eastern region have been awarded the Meritorious Services Medal. These include 13 from Assam, four from Manipur, one from Meghalaya, three from Mizoram, one from Nagaland and six from Tripura. The police personnel who have received the Meritorious Services Medal are Horen Tokbi (Commandant), Shomez Uddin (Inspector), Nurul Islam (ASI), Achyut Dutta (ASI), Sunil Mili (Havildar), Mujammil Saikia (woman constable), Bipul Bora (constable), Hiren Hazarika (constable), Bulon Gohain (constable), Alok Paul (constable), Jagat Tamang (constable), and Jaydeep Sharma (Inspector).
