GUWAHATI: The State Government has assured the Gauhati High Court that the matter of salaries of members of the Foreigners Tribunals (FTs) being withheld would be looked into, and urgent remedial measures would be taken in this regard.

This assurance was given by the Senior Government Advocate, Assam after the amicus curiae in the matter informed the court that the salaries of the members of various Foreigners Tribunals "have been again withheld".

The Senior Government Advocate also submitted a copy of the minutes of a meeting held on June 6, 2022 at the chamber of the Commissioner and Secretary of the Home and Political Department to discuss the issue of complaints against members of the Foreigners' Tribunals. Upon being informed that the relevant documents have been not been made available to the amicus curiae, the High Court directed that these be furnished so that further submissions could be made by the amicus curiae if deemed necessary.

Hearing of the matter will resume on July 28.
