Early Life-

Punakan Baruah is a resident of Chabua town 'B' ward in Dibrugarh district of Assam. His age is 55. He is the son of Late Brikodur Baruah. He is married to MousumiPhukan Boruah. They are blessed with two children, a daughter named Barbie Baruah and a son named Barnabh Baruah.

Education

The politician has done his schooling at Panitola Higher Secondary school located in Tinsukia. He is a BA from D.D.R College, Chabua, 1992 batch.

Career and Politics-

During his student life, he was an active member of the All Assam Students Union(AASU) Dibrugarh district.

He was the Chairman of Assam Hydrocarbon and Energy Company Ltd.

He played a significant role during the AGP sponsored signature campaign of 2018 against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 at the Chowkidinghee playground.

He will be contesting the upcoming Assam Assembly elections 2021 on an AGP ticket from the Chabua constituency.
