Early Life:

Gautam Roy is a resident of Hailakandi Town in the Hailakandi district of Assam. His age is 72 years. He is the son of Late Santosh Kumar Roy. He is married to Mandira Roy, also a politician who was MLA of Algapur in 2013when she won the Bye Election that year.

Education:

Roy is an Arts graduate from S.S College, Hailakandi, 1969 batch.

Career and Politics:

Gautam Roy, a veteran politician of Assam, first got his ticket from the INC (Congress) for the Assam Assembly elections of 1985 from Katlicherrra constituency. He won by defeating Tazamul Ali Laskar, an Independent candidate.

In the 1991 Assam elections, he defeated Sachidananda Upadhyay, an Independent candidate to win the Katlicherrra seat.

In the 1996 Assam elections, he defeated Benulal Ghose of AGP.

In Assam Assembly Election 2001, he defeatedMisbahur Rahman Laskar, an Independent candidate.

His winning spree continued in the Assam Assembly elections of 2006 and 2011.

In 2019, the six-time Congress MLA joined BJP.

Gautam Roy shall be contesting the 2021 Assam Assembly elections as a BJP candidate from the Katigora constituency.

The gross total value of his assets is estimated at over Rs 5 crore.
