He is a Bachelors in Agriculture from P.K.V Akola College of Agriculture, Maharashtra, 1989 batch.

SantanuSarma will fight the battle against his cousin brother RupakSarma of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This is the first he shall be contesting Assam Election.
