He is a resident of Joyanagar, Khanapara, Dispur in Kamrup (M) district of Assam. He is the son of Parba Nanda Kalita. Shailen is 54 years old.

He completed B.V.Sc. and A.H from college of Veterinary Science, Khanapara, Guwahati in 1990.

Career and politics:

He is contesting the 2021 Assam Assembly Election from Dispur constituency as an Independent candidate.
