Early Life

Phani Bhusan Choudhury, son of Late Ramesh Ch. Choudhury is 68 years of age. He is a resident of Bakharapara Part-II, Ward no. 23 in the Bongaigaon district of Assam. He is married to Dipti Mayee Choudhury. 

Education

He is a Bachelor of Science from Arya Vidhyapeeth College, Guwahati in the year 1973. 

Career and Politics

Phani Bhusan Choudhury holds a distinct record of being elected from the Bongaigaon Assembly constituency for 7 times in a row. He won twice consecutively as an Independent candidate and five times on an Asom Gana Parishad ticket. He has been contesting the Assam Assembly elections since 1985. 

He is the sitting MLA from Bongaigaon and the Cabinet Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Pension & Public Grievances. 

In the 2016 Assembly election, he defeated his nearest rival by 31,320 votes where he bagged 77,292 votes while his nearest rival INC's Shankar Prasad Ray bagged 45,972 votes. The voter turnout was 88.68%. 

He is going to contest the 2021 Assam Assembly election from the Bongaigaon constituency on an AGP ticket. This will be his 8th contesting the Assam elections from Bongaigaon constituency.

According to the nomination filed with the Election Commission of India, his and his spouse's moveable assets are worth Rs. 19.73 lakhs and Rs. 45.06 lakhs respectively and his immovable assets are worth Rs. 2.18 crore.
