Early Life

Jyoti Prasad Das is the son of Late Bangshidhar Das. He is a resident of Village no.2 Dakuapara, in the district of Kamrup (Rural) in Assam. He is married to Nabanita Baishya and is blessed with two sons. He is 59 years of age.


He is has a Bachelor Degree in Science from Arya Vidyapeeth College in the year 1981.

Career and Politics

Jyoti Prasad Das was twice elected as the MLA of Boko constituency in the year 1996 and 2006 on an AGP ticket. In 1996, he beat INC's Gopinath Das after having secured 49,263 votes compared to Gopinath's 34,992 votes. In 2006, he defeated INC's Gopi Nath Das after having secured 61,578 votes compared to Gopinath's 52,437 votes.

In 2011, he came third to INC's Jayanta Das (43,697 votes) and AIUDF's Gopinath Das (winner- 54,388) having secured 24,086 votes with the voter turnout that year was 83.27 percent.

In 2016, he again lost to INC's Nandita Das who secured 69,986 votes compared to his 52,392 votes. The voter turnout for that year was 89.05 percent.

Jyoti Prasad Das is all set to contest the 2021 Assam Assembly election from the Boko (SC) constituency on an AGP ticket.


According to the nomination filed with the Election Commission of India, his and his spouse's moveable assets are worth Rs. 17.90 lakhs and Rs. 21.36 lakhs respectively and their immovable assets are worth Rs. 35 lakhs and Rs. 8 lakhs respectively.
