Sarukhetri is an Assembly Constituency and it is located in Barpeta District. The current MLA of Sarukhetri Assembly Constitution is Jakir Hussain Sikdar.

Sarukhetri Assembly Constituency is one of the 126 Assembly Constituencies and it bears number 46. It falls under Barpeta Lok Sabha Constituency.

The district, Barpeta is an administrative district in Lower Assam, India. The district headquarter is located in Barpeta. The area covered by the district is 3245 km square. According to the 2011 census, most of the people in Barpera district is of Islam religion and Bengali is the language spoken by the majority of the people in the district with 61.74%, while Assamese speakers are 36.14%.

In Sarukhetri Assembly Election 2016, the Sarukhetri Constituency had a total of 175014 voters and out of them the total number of valid voters was 154551. In the election, a candidate, named Jakir Hussain Sikdar of the Indian National Congress party won the election with 70062 votes and defeated Chittaranjan Barman of the Asom Gana Parishad party who got 45815 votes.

  2. 2.In the 2011 Assembly Constituency election, Ali Hossain of All India United Democratic Front party became the MLA from the Sarukhetri Constituency with 51537 votes and defeated Tara Prasad Das of the Indian National Congress party who secured 23915 votes.
  3. 3.In 2006 and 2001, the Independent candidate, Dr Tara Prasad Das won the election with 35179 and 34782 votes respectively.
  4. 4.In 1996 Nizamuddin Khan of the Communist Party of India won with 21375 votes, defeating Kandarpa Kumar Das, who secured 12106 votes.
