Things took a grim turn in Assam's Jorhat on Tuesday when Abhijeet Sharma, a Professor of Agronomy at the 'Assam Agriculture University' reportedly hanged himself to death.
According to reports, the Professor left behind a suicide note which has been recovered by police in the early moments of the investigation.
Talking to THE SENTINEL DIGITAL, Bidyut Dutta, the In-Charge of the Lichubari Outpost under the Jorhat Police Station said: "We got to know about the incident around 8-8:45 am in the morning. We went along with the Magistrate to investigate the death of the Professor. The inquest for post-mortem was made by the Circle Officer of Jorhat Sultana Akhtara Ahmed."
"As per the preliminary investigation, the cause of death seems certain to be suicide. It seems like it. However, the body was sent for post-mortem to rule out foul play such as poisoning, so let's see what comes out of it", Dutta further added.
