DEMOW: Under the leadership of Sumeet Kumar Handique, secretary of ATASU, Demow Regional Committee, and Lalit Tanti, AASAA Demow Regional Committee, a memorandum was submitted to Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar district through the Demow Circle Officer on Monday.

In the memorandum, they stated that during the coronavirus pandemic, the State Agriculture Department had launched the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) for poor farmers but there were anomalies in the list of beneficiaries of the 20 panchayats of Thowra constituency of Sivasagar district as genuine farmers had been left out of the list of beneficiaries.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), Rs 2,000 was deposited in every farmer's account in three installments and it was alleged that anomalies took place under this scheme. Sumeet Kumar Handique and Lalit Tanti stated in the memorandum that in Thowra constituency under the Demow and Nitaipukhuri Agriculture Blocks, anomalies took place and under Demow Development Block, in Demow Grant, Athabari, Kharahat, Rupjyoti and Palengi, genuine farmers were left out and names of the some businessmen, government employees, along with members of the ruling party were included. The ATASU, Demow Regional Committee and AASAA, Demow Regional Committee have demanded high-level enquiry into the anomalies in the list of beneficiaries under Thowra constituency and also demanded strict action against the guilty.
