The Government of Assam has constituted an eight-member Task Force to suggest ways for revitalizing the State's economy. It has been reported that the ongoing nationwide lockdown, imposed by the Union Government to curb the spread COVID-19 pandemic, hit hard almost all economic activities in the country including Assam. A few days earlier State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that a massive dip in the collection of the GST in the state has been seen during the lockdown period. Chief Minsiter Sarbanada Sonowal also held a meeting with a group of distinguished economists to discuss the current state of economy of Assam. At last the government has constituted the Task Force, headed by retired bureaucrat Subhash Chandra Das, to suggest ways to revitalize the economy. Revealing this Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal, on Sunday tweeted, "Assam Govt. has constituted an 8-member Task Force under the chairmanship of IAS(retd.) Shri Shubhas Chandra Das. The decision is in pursuance to CM Shri Sarbananda Sonowal's meeting with economists regarding the COVID-19 situation on April 28."
