Guwahati:

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday informed that the Assam Government has urged the Central Government to extend the nationwide lockdown by two more weeks.

Responding to a query during a press meet in Guwahati, Sonowal said that every state has been urged to submit a report in writing on how to observe the lockdown to the Centre, by May 15. "In the meantime, we have forwarded the report. One thing is clear from the Assam Government; we have urged the Centre to extend the lockdown by 2 more weeks. Moreover, we have also given recommendations on how to take the lockdown phase forward and we have sent a report to the Centre."

Sonowal also informed that in a recent video conference between the CMs and the PM, he had urged the Centre to provide economic relief to Assam to tide the state over the COVID-19 crisis.

It may be mentioned here that the PM, in an address to the nation on May 12, hinted at a fourth phase of the lockdown. "The lockdown 4.0 will be of complete different hues and colors and will have different rules. On the basis of the suggestions we are getting from the states, you will be given instructions before May 18", PM Modi said in his address to the nation.
