Himanta Biswa visits Bongaigaon to check on COVID-19 facility

Guwahati: Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Bongaigaon to check on COVID-19 facility.  He tweeted, "Visited Bongaigaon along with MoS@Pijush_hazarika to review #COVID19 situation, get first-hand assessment of the containment zone, and check preparedness at the Quarantine Centre at Civil Hospital. Advised Dest Admin to ensure finest care for 5 positive patients."

Meanwhile,  in an inhuman activity, where a frontline fighter of COVID-19 has been asked to vacate his rented house, has shaken Bongaigaon. Anupam Deka, ADC of Bongaigaon, lives in the rented house of Rohini Choudhury, a retired administrative officer. Anupam Deka's wife told media persons said that they were verbally asked to vacate the house. "My husband is working day and night in the fight against the pandemic and since the last few days he has not came home also. Yesterday, he came and visited us just for a few minutes. The landlord's wife, Bipasha Choudhury, who is a lecturer in DIET, asked us to vacate the house alleging that we are carriers of coronavirus. I have informed the Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner and police administration in this regard," she said. Police arrived in the house on Sunday and started investigation in the matter. The local people have condemned such an insensitive act on the part of Rohini Choudhury and his family.

Also, Bongaigaon Block Public Health Centre was sealed after two employees from there tested COVID-19 positive. The decision was taken by Bongaigaon district administration. However there were allegations that the two people were not kept in home quarantine after their samples were collected for examination.

It is important to note that 30 of Assam's 33 districts fall in the "green" zone, the remainder three in the "orange" zone category. Bongaigaon somehow has not been enlisted as "red" by the Union Ministry as yet, with Himanta Biswa Sarma also saying that this is cause of both cheer and caution, and that the people of the state as a whole need to remain more vigilant. The government too has to adopt a stricter and tougher stand so that there is no violation of the lockdown, which has been extended by two weeks as this piece is being written.
