LAKHIMPUR: The people living on the bank of the River Ranganadi (upper side) submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur on Monday.

Through the memorandum, the people called upon the DC to take steps to stop the construction of a dyke which has been allegedly constructed in order to secure only the Dezoo Tea Estate, causing the river course to change. Notably, the scheme concerned has been implemented by Dezoo Gaon Panchayat under Naoboicha LAC under MGNREGA. According to the memorandum, if the construction of the dyke is completed, the changing course of the River Ranganadi will cause massive threat to North Lakhimpur town and an extensive area located on the other side of the river and turn the Ranganadi embankment strengthening scheme worth Rs. 361 crore valueless.
