MANGALDAI: Mangaldai Police on Wednesday afternoon arrested Rupa Rani Bhuyan, an Associate Professor in English department of Mangaldai College, on the charge of assaulting a female Sub-Inspector on duty.

As per the information, Rupa Rani Bhuyan was asked to appear at the Mangaldai Police Station in connection with Mangaldai Police Station case numbers 225/2020 under section 153(A) IPC read with section 67 of IT Act, 236/2020 under section 294(A)/ 500/153 (A) IPC read with section 67 of IT Act and case number 241/2020 under section 153(A)/ 500/501 IPC read with section 66 of IT Act. Arriving at the police station, she allegedly started misbehaving with the female personnel in the Women Cell of Mangaldai Police Station and made an attempt to assault the in-charge of the Women Cell Women, Sub-Inspector Twinkle Goswami.

On the basis of the FIR lodged by Sub Inspector Twinkle Goswami, Mangaldai Police registered a case and arrested her in connection with case number 264/2020 under section 294/353/ 506 IPC and produced her before the judicial court on Wednesday evening. The court ordered for remanding her to judicial custody in Mangaldai District Jail.

Earlier, Mangaldai Police had registered three cases against her for uploading some objectionable and communal comments in social media. She also made derogatory comments against eminent litterateur and Sahityacharyya award recipient Syed Abdul Malik.
