Superstitious woman kills grand-daughter at Khatpathar village

NAHARKATIA: A shocking incident took place at Khatpathar village in Sasoni Mouza under Naharkatia constituency on Thursday morning when a superstitious grandmother allegedly killed her one-and-half year old grand-daughter.

According to information, Bulu Saikia threw her grand-daughter into a well in the backyard of their house. When this incident took place, Bulu Saikia's husband Nayan Saikia was busy in their shop and the child's mother Anjumoni Saikia was in the bathroom. The child's father Hiron Kumar Saikia was out for some work.

Later, Bulu Saikia surrendered at the Sassoni Police Outpost which falls under Naharkatia Police Station. Anjumoni Saikia, the child's mother alleged that it was a cold-blooded murder. According to some locals, the superstitious beliefs of Bulu Saikia made her kill her grand-daughter. Naharkatia Police registered a case with 91/2020 serial number under 302 Act of the Indian Penal Code and sent Bulu Saikia to Dibrugarh Jail.
