Thousands gather to bid tearful adieu to Santosh Hojai, demand justice
HAFLONG: Thousands of people from all walks life gathered to bid a tearful adieu to Santosh Hojai who was kidnapped and killed by unknown gunmen under mysterious circumstances during the nationwide lockdown at Harangajao on Saturday.
People of Harangajao in particular and of Dima Hasao in general were in a state of shock after the recovery of kidnapped Santosh Hojai's body buried near Lailing on the National Highway under Langting Police station on April 30. His body was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem and brought to Harangajao on Saturday.
A silent procession along with the body of Hojai was taken out till the cremation ground near Choto Narainpur. A pall of gloom descended on Harangajao.
Meanwhile, the Dimasa Students' Union, All Dimasa Students' Union and various organizations have demanded high-level and fast track enquiry into Hojai's kidnapping and killing while condemning the incident vehemently. In a condolence message to the bereaved family of Santosh Hojai, all the organizations of Dima Hasao assured that they would stand by the family till justice was delivered.
On the other hand, the Hmar Students' Association (HSA) Harangajao Block also condemned the incident and demanded justice. HSA slammed the failure of Dima Hasao district administration in general and the law enforcement agencies in particular to protect the lives of people.
The HSA Harangajao Block urged the Government of Assam and Dima Hasao district administration to investigate the matter without further delay and to bring to book the culprits involved in the abduction and murder of Hojai. HSA Harangajao Block also demanded probe into the cause of death of Ramakanta Dey, head teacher of Michikhur Part-ii LP School, Ditokcherra, whose body was found near Ditokchera Railway Station on May 1.
