Xattiya of Jakai Xatra Arup Mahanta passes away in Sivasagar

GAURISAGAR: Arup (Moina) Mahanta, xattiya of Jakai Xatra, Charing, son of former Xatradhikar Muktinath Mahanta and a noted bhaona artiste of Sivasagar, passed away on Wednesday morning at his residence due to prolonged illness. He was 58. His demise has been widely mourned in entire Sivasagar district. People from various walks of life thronged his residence and paid floral tribute. He was a popular artiste and was involved in various social and cultural activities. He is survived by his wife, a son and a host of relatives.
