LAKHIMPUR: The Gharmora Xatra and Gosai Chapori connecting road under Lakhimpur Development Block has been in a deplorable condition since the road was redeemed from encroachment in the month of August last year.

A 1 km stretch of the road under the North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle (Dag No. 119) had been under encroachment for many years. Regarding the issue, the people of the village submitted consecutive applications to the Lakhimpur DC, Circle Officer of North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle, the Police Station concerned and even to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, appealing for eviction. Regarding the issue, two detailed reports were published in two consecutive issues of The Sentinel in the month of July. Finally, the road was freed from encroachment last year by launching eviction drive. However, no scheme for the upgrade of the deplorable condition of the road has been implemented till the day by any of authorities concerned like PWD (Rural Division) or Panchayti Raj institutions.

Under such circumstances, responding to the requests of the local people, three youths of the area came forward to repair the road. On Sunday, these three youths named Basanta Das, who is the vice-president of Lakhimpur Anchalik Panchayat, Tanka Das and Polash Das improved the deplorable condition of the road by earth filling with their individual investment. The people of the area appreciated the magnanimity of the youths and demanded the district administration to grant fund for the repair of the road before the onset of the rainy season.
