24 youths trained by artillery unit selected for Indian Army

Tezpur, May 21: As part of Op Sadbhavana, to empower local population and their further integration into mainstream, an artillery unit under the aegis of Ball of Fire Division had trained local youth of Sonitpur district for the Army recruitment rally conducted by ZRO Shillong. Officiating Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Vinod Sharma, while addressing the media, has said, “This year out of the total 53 youths who were trained by the unit, 24 have been selected for Indian Army.”

On being contacted, PRO Defense Tezpur said, “This is first time that so many youth have been selected during this year’s ZRO Shillong Recruitment Rally which is quite commendable.” He also added that this was the second year in a row that this unit had achieved the feat as in 2017 also, 18 youth had been enrolled into Indian Army, four in CRPF and two in Assam Rifle cadre. This outreach to local population has generated tremendous goodwill, especially amongst the local populace. A letter of appreciation was presented to the unit on behalf of Padma Hazarika, MLA of Sootea LAC.
