6 ULFA(I) cadres, Two linkmen arrested in past 24 hours

Demow: Amid tight security arrangement ahead of 73rd Independence Day, Sivasagar Police along with security forces under the supervision of Additional SP Bolin Deori apprehended a hardcore ULFA (I) cadre at Borpiyal Habi Village of Bokota Nemuguri Police Station under Demow Revenue Circle in Sivasagar District.

So far 6 ULFA (I) cadres, two linkmen arrested in the past 24 hours.

As per police report, a police team apprehended the ULFA (I) cadre identified as Biren Chetia from the residence of one Girin Tamuli of the same village. Police also recovered one hand grenade and three mobile handsets from the possession of the ULFA (I) cadre.

The team earlier apprehended two ULFA (I) linkmen from Masoi area under Demow Revenue Circle.

The linkmen were identified as Arun Raidongia and Jitumoni alias Babu Tamuli.

Meanwhile, the police team is conducting further interrogation of the apprehended ULFA (I) cadres and linkmen at Demow Police Station.

Assam Police apprehended four suspected ULFA (I) cadres on Thursday from Laipuliya area in Dhemaji.

As per police reports, the cadres were in an attempt to burn the Indian National Flag and hoist ULFA (I) flag and later upload the video on social media.

The cadres were trying to spread an anti-Indian sentiment amongst the masses through social media, informed Superintendent of Police Rakesh Reddy.

Furthermore, another ULFA(I) cadre surrendered before the Sonari Police in the wee hours today.

The ULFA (I) cadre was identified as Biman Gogoi alias Jeet Asom.

As per reports, Biman Gogoi, a resident of No 1 Haufau village in Sonari was on the way to meet former Indian Army soldier Tipuram Gogoi in his residence in the same village when he was surrounded by Charaideo police.

ULFA(I) cadre then surrendered himself before the police force.

Police, on the other hand, had recovered any suspicious items or documents from his possession during the course of action.

Sources also informed that Gogoi joined the outlawed faction last year.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media, surrendered cadre said that the present environment inside the ULFA(I) base camp had forced them to escape since the last couple of months.
