9 killed, 15 injured in a head-on collision in Demow, Injured people shifted to AMCH

Demow: At least 9 people were killed and more than 15 people were injured in a severe head-on collision between a Dibrugarh bound ultra bus (AS 05C 5999 )and a Jorhat bound traveller (AS 23BC 6878) in Khaura area of Demow on Monday morning.

All the injured people have been immediately rushed to Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh for better medication.

Meanwhile, out of the 9 deceased people one has been identified as Naren Bharali of Demow. The body of the deceased passengers were shifted to Demow Model Hospital.

Update: The other 6 deceased persons were identified as Hiranya Jyoti Chetia (AASU Dhemaji Advisor), Purna Kanta Sarma (Tinsukia ICICI bank employee) of Majuli, Subrata Bora of Chering Chapori, Saurav Sarma of Sivasagar, Biki Kalita (Traveller Driver) of Chaulkhuwa in Dibrugarh, Binaya Baidya of Silapathar in Dhemaji. The identity of the rest two passengers has not been ascertained so far.

The police investigation is on.

Rashmi Rekha Kachari (Dergaon), Islam Ahmed (Dibrugarh), Pradip Dhengia (Demow), Deha Singh Nath (Farkating), Bipul Tamuli (Kakjon), Mohammad Kudus Ali (Morigaon), Bhogeswar Baruah (Demow).

Furthermore, speaking to the media, local people in the area claimed that the accident occurred due to negligent driving by the Jorhat bound traveller driver who allegedly lost its control of the vehicle and hit the Ultra bus from the opposite direction at the National Highway 37.

Also, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his grief over the incident.

"I'm extremely distressed by the news of the Demow accident. I offer my prayer for the peace of the departed souls and convey my deepest sympathy to the families of the deceased. I have directed the district administration to provide prompt and all necessary help to the injured persons," the Chief Minister tweeted.
