A tribute to Rameswar Sarma

Rameswar Sarma, a retired RBI officer and a popular resident of Lutuma, Kalapahar left for his heavenly abode on May 22. He was 82 years of age. He was loved & respected by all sections of the society. He always believed in sharing his vast knowledge. Sarma, was born in Konimara village of Barpeta district and studied till school level at Patarcharkuchi Vidyapeeth. On completion of schooling, he moved to Guwahati and graduated from B.Baruah College, Guwahati. By nature, Sarma was very ambitious, labourious and hardworking. As his parents were not in a position to support his higher studies at Guwahati city, he himself found ways and means to continue his education by undertaking private tuitions and doing various part time jobs. By these means, he not only continued his own higher studies but also helped his younger brothers to continue their studies too. He was instrumental in forming the careers of his own brothers and many others. Sarma had worked in several organizations before joining RBI, such as Guwahati Jail, LIC of India. He joined RBI as an assistant and moved upto the rank of the Manager before retiring.

On attaining the retirement age, though he retired from his Govt service, he continued to be actively participating in social activities by associating himself with several organizations/committees. He was the auditor of the RBI retired employees association Guwahati, Lutuma Naamghar, Lutuma Puja Committee, Lutuma Bihu Committee etc and several social activities. He was an avid reader and always enjoyed discussing on different subjects and issues. He is survived by his spouse, 1 daughter, 2 sons, son-in-law, daughters-in-law and 3 grand children.
