Golaghat, June 25: Amidst the State-wise agitation by various organizations against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Golaghat district committee of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) took out gana satyagraha in Golaghat on Monday to strongly oppose the proposed bill. Almost thousands of AASU activists as well as delegates of other organizations took part in the programme and a rally was taken out from the Golaghat AASU office premises throughout Golaghat town.

Taking part in the protest, AASU central committee general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi slammed the BJP government as well as the Sarbananda Sonowal-led Assam Government for taking initiative to amend the Citizenship Bill. He also said that the steps taken by the BJP government to settle the illegal Hindu migrants in Assam would never be acceptable as the indigenous people of Assam would lose their identity. Besides, Assamese people would have to suffer a lot educationally, economically and politically. The AASU will never allow the proposed bill to be passed by any cost, he said. In the programme, AASU chief organizing secretary Raju Phukan, Golaghat AASU general secretary Abhibartan Goswami, and president in-charge Mridul Saikia were present.
