AASU staged a road blockade demanding repairment of Sarupathar- Golaghat Road

Sarupathar: Agitated over the worst condition of Sarupathar to Golaghat road, the regional unit of AASU along with some other students of Dhansiri Subdivision under Golaghat district staged a two hours Sarupathar-Golaghat road blockade and launched a massive protest against the Public Works Department (PWD) authorities, here on Monday at Barpathar town.

The protesting students were raising slogans against the PWD and District administration for their failure to repair the road. Demanding immediate repair and blacktopping of the road, they blocked the Sarupathar to Golaghat roadways today.

The protesting students claimed that due to worst condition of the road, they often get late in reaching the school whereas, in case of raining, Mini Bus does not ply with the result they miss the school. “Despite manifold problems being faced by us, there has been no action by the district administration and PWD authorities to repaired and improve the road condition,” they lamented.

Some locals of Barpathar area and the adjoining area also joined the demonstration and threatened two-hour protest in the heart of the Barpathar town on Monday.

On the other hand, recently, the Chutia Student’s Union of Dhansiri Subdivision also staged an indefinite massive protest in front of the PWD office at Sarupathar, Podumoni against the PWD and CCL company and demand immediate repair of the road of Sarupathar to Uriamghat.

Moreover, according to the report an exotic company of Hydrabad named CCL (Continental Coffee Limited) had constructed the 19 Kilometer road from Silonijan to Sarupathar last year and the construction of the 19 Kilometer long route was initiated at an estimated cost of Rs 21 Crore, but it may be mentioned that the roads of Dhansiri Subdivision had worst condition. Meanwhile, according to the report, Bijoy Jindal was the manager-in-charge of CCL company when the 19 Kilometer road was constructed at the cost of 21 crores in Golaghat district.
