AASU waved black flags in protest against PM Modi's visit in Guwahati

Guwahati: Following the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Guwahati, members of AASU and on Friday waved black flags at Swahid Nyas, the head office of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) in the city to protest against his visit in the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is about to head towards Raj Bhawan at Uzan Bazaar in Guwahati today.

AASU members chanted various slogans to stage their protest against the PM Modi-led BJP Government and contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016.

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will initiate the construction work of AIIMS at Changsari by taking part in a 'Bhumi Pujan on Saturday.'

As per BJP sources, more then 3 lakh people are expected to gather at the function tomorrow.

Reports also claim that people from Hajo, West Guwahati, East Guwahati, Nalbari, Raha, Jagiroad, Morigaon, Sipajhar, Barkhetri, Kamalpur, Palashbari, Mangoldoi and several other places of Assam are likely to take part in the event.

Furthermore, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Assam visit, the regional political party of the state Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) took a torchlight march in Guwahati to protest against the contentious bill in the evening hours today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate several projects in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura. He landed in Guwahati at around 5:30 pm today.

Speaking to the media, AASU advisor, Samujjal Bhattacharya slamming the Government said, "The Government of India and Assam cannot suppress our voice on any condition. The anger and fire erupting in the heart of the people of Assam will grow more. AIIMS is our right and the Government has to give to the state, but the intention of the Government is to implement the contentious Citizenship Bill and we the people of Assam will not accept this on any condition. The government of Assam can follow the footsteps of the Government of India, but not the people of Assam."

Also, several other organizations have threatened the Government of India and Assam to start a massive protest against the bill.
