AATTSA threatens to launch indefinite strike in Doomdooma from August 9

Doomdooma: Around 80% students from Doomdooma failed to enlist their names in the Doomdooma College due to low seat capacity for the year 2019.

The incident already triggered a panic situation amongst the poor students of the area residing nearby the tea estate regions.

On Wednesday, All Assam Tea Tribes Students' Association (AATTSA) Doomdooma Unit held a press conference threatening the Government of Assam for an indefinite strike in Doomdooma area from August 9, 2019.

The body also slammed the Government of Assam and then Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for making promises for construction of a new Doomdooma Women’s College in the area.

Earlier, on June 18, 2019, the Higher Secondary qualified Students under aegis of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and other local organizations blocked the National Highway 37 for at least 2 hours leading to massive traffic congestion in Doomdooma.

As per reports, local students who had recently passed out their HS examination 2019 opting to apply for their higher studies at the Doomdooma College failed to make into the merit list due to limited seat capacity.

Things took an ugly turn after 862 students out of 1162 were left out from the merit list; these angry students later staged a protest against the College Authority blocking the National Highway 37 burning tyres on the road.

Later, Circle Officer and Officer in charge of the Doomdooma Police Station reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

It is to be noted that Doomdooma College is limited to only 300 seat capacity for the new batch students.

Furthermore, several students from nearby areas of Doomdooma namely Saikhowa, Dongri, Talap, Dirak, Filobari, Baghjan, Dhigaltarang, Borhapjan and Rupai also pursue their higher education here in Doomdooma College.

HS 2019 Examination

There were around 2,42,843 HS candidates who appeared for their Higher Secondary Examination this year from entire Assam. From Arts stream, there were around 1,86,187 students, 37,455 in Science and 18,910 from Commerce stream.

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) had declared the results of Class 12 examinations on May 25 at 9 am.

Indian sprinter Hima Das had secured first division in the HSSLC examination this year.
