KALAIGAON, May 24: The Kalaigaon unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has demanded the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district to take action against a contractor engaged for improvement of the Kalaigaon-Tangni road for alleged sub-standard work.

Gaurikanta th, president and Ranjan Sarma, secretary of Kalaigaon AASU, alleged that construction work of the Kalaigaon-Tangni PWD Road was poor and the road would be damaged within a short time. They said that the road was the lifeline for people of greater Kalaigaon and the road links with Bhakatpara, Besimari and Kharupetia.

They added, "The Government of Assam is trying for the development of the State but the ground reality in remote areas of Assam continues to be as dismal as before. The sorry state of affairs finds manifestation in Kalaigaon under Udalguri district where a contractor engaged for construction of the Kalaigaon-Tangni road allegedly did sub-standard work. So, the Kalaigaon AASU has complained to the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri to take up the issue."
