AGP Dima Hasao rules out alliance with BJP in NCHAC poll
Haflong, June 30: The AGP Dima Hasao District Committee has categorically denied the news of AGP-BJP alliance in the upcoming NC Hills Autonomous Council poll.
In a press release signed by Joypon Longmailai, central council member, and Khawvelthang Hmar, general secretary of AGP, Dima Hasao district, it was stated that the AGP would contest all alone in the upcoming panchayat election. The AGP leadership had announced this in the recently concluded party’s national convention held May 5 in Guwahati. There is no question of any pre-poll or post-poll alliance with any party, both BJP and Congress in the upcoming NCHAC election, stated the press release.
The AGP Dima Hasao Committee also condemned the news regarding the hobnobbing of top AGP party leaders contemplating to join the BJP. The AGP ridiculed such mischievous action on the part of the BJP and the Congress to create confusion in the mind of the public. “Such action on their part only proves that they have accepted defeat before election seeing the support and love for the AGP in the district,” stated the release.
Debojeet Thaosen, senior AGP leader, has initiated criminal defamation in the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court, Haflong against Samir Thaosen who stated on Facebook that a meeting took place in Guwahati in which senior AGP leaders like Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Atul Bora, Debojeet Thaosen, Prakanta Warisa and 28 candidates from 28 autonomous constituencies were present. In that meeting, BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma allegedly announced that there would be AGP-BJP alliance in Dima Hasao. The AGP Dima Hasao District Committee clearly stated that no such meeting was ever held and the AGP Dima Hasao had not declared or selected any candidate for any constituency.
“The AGP is united to uphold the interest of the district taking into confidence all the tribes and communities of Dima Hasao and its all-round development in the coming future,” added the press release.
